"Steward B. Mathon...was born in Pennsylvania, November 26, 1849, the third born of the eleven children of John and Rebecca (Corey) Mathon, both natives of Pennsylvania, and the father born in Washington county. The father was of Irish and the mother of German descent and both died in their native state. The only two of the children living in Nebraska are Milton, of Grand Island, and Steward B., of this article, but several of them still live in Pennsylvania. Mr. Mathon was reared on a farm in the state of his birth, receiving his education in local schools.  In the 1850 census for Darlington, Beaver Co., Pennsylvania, John Mahon is 30, farmer; with Rebecca 25; Mary 5; James 3; and Stewart 9 months -- all born PA.  Elnathan Corey 50 and family are on the same page.
 In the 1860 census for Darlington, Beaver Co., Pennsylvania, John 'Mahan' is 40, farmer; with Rebecca 36; Mary 14; James M. 12; Steward 11; William J. 9; Walter 7; Washington J. 5; Porter 3; and Samuel Meanor 23, farm labor -- all born PA.
 In the 1870 census for Darlington, Beaver Co., Pennsylvania, John Mahon [also indexed as 'Makin'] is 50, laborer born Pennsylvania, with wife Rebecca 45; James 22, Stewart 20, Walter 19, Josiah 15; Porter 13; Martin 9; George 7; Robert 4; and Emma 1 -- all born Pennyslvania. {p. 681 roll 1302 HeritageQuest}
 In the 1880 census for Darlington, John 'Mahan' is listed as widowed, with Josuah 33 PA, 'coal miner'; wife Anna and daughter Birtha 5. James Mahon, 32 'coal miner' with family; and Porter E. Mahan 21, boarder, are also in Darlington.
 His son Walter is found in Darlington with family in 1900.
