Obituary
The death took place at Aulteririe, West Clyne on Friday 24 Jan of Mr John Ross Mackay, youngest son of the late Mr & Mrs John Mackay.
Mr Mackay, who was a native of the parish, took a keen interest in everything pertaining to its welfare. Possessed of a quiet and sociable disposition Mr Mackay was beloved by all who had the privilege of knowing him. A member of Clyne Free Church, he was a regular attender at all its services when health permitted. For over 40 years he acted as Hon Sec fto the West Clyne Mission Hall. In his younger days he was a keen member of Clyne Company of the Sutherland Rifle Volunteers and was one of the few remaining members in our midst who attended the Wet Review at Edinburgh in 1881.
Mr Mackay will be greatly missed in West Clyne. He was always willing to help his neighbours whenever his services were requisitioned. He is survived by his only sister Mrs MacDonald, Inverness, who has the sympathy of the community in her bereavement.
The funeral took place on Monday to Clyne New Cemetery and was well attended. Rev D McNaughton, Clyne Free Church officiated. The pall bearers were Mr Sonny MacDonald, Inverness, nephew, Mr J Kidd, Brora, Mr James Munro, Clynelish, Mr Andrew Coghill, Clynelish, Mr D Gordon, West Clyne, Mr W Gunn, West Clyne, Mr James McLean, West Clyne, and Mr W C Sutherland, Brora.
