    US Congressman. A successful farmer, he served in the North Carolina State House of Representatives and State Senate, 1811 to 1815. In 1821, he was elected as a Republican to the Seventeenth Congress, elected as a Crawford Republican to the Eighteenth Congress, and served three terms through 1829. A unsuccessful candidate for reelection, he resumed his agricultural business until his death.
