AN OLD SETTLER DEAD
On last Sunday morning, November 16th John G. Livingstone, one of the first settlers in this locality, died at his home almost twelve miles east of Coffeyville, after a long illness from typhoid fever at the age of 51. He was a man universally respected by his neighbors and friends, and his remains were followed to the grave by the large portion of the residents of the community in which he resided. A deep feeling of sympathy is felt for the widow and children in the loss of an exceedingly kind and considerate husband and father.
Mr. Livingstone had the forethought, a few years ago to become a member of the Knights of Honor lodge of this city, thus providing his family with reasonably competency at a time when they most need it. Several of the officers and members of the lodge went to the cemetery on Tuesday morning and took charge of the funeral service, consigning the body of their departed brother to the tomb with the beautiful and impressive ceremony of the order. The deceased was well known throughout this entire community and his untimely death is deeply regretted by all.
