John came to New England aboard the ship William & Francis leaving London the March 9, 1632 and arriving in Boston Harbor June 5, 1632 along with Rev. Thomas Weld of Terling in Essex. It is probable that others who made the voyage were attached to his ministry. John Leavens was one of the 19 men who joined in covenant, creating the Church of Christ of Roxborough where Rev. Thomas Weld became pastor. John became a freeman in 1634, giving his oath in Boston.[2]
