Family tree▼ Facts and Events
Information is from Suewiya Pickett (pickettjm@@mail.in-tch.com) on the internet. John L. was named for a family friend, John Robert Looney, who owned the first (abt 1870) store, dry goods, and ran the post office (1874) in the East Texas town named Looneyville after him. His son, Joseph F. (Joe) Looney was murdered by a surprised black thief in the store on 9/28/1887. John L. was a fat, jovial man whom we called "Big Daddy". He and Mary Lou moved to Pampa, TX, in 1926 when the oil and gas fields were being developed there. He taught high school agriculture courses. We often visited them in Pampa where they lived near a city park and had a few cherry trees. By James M. Pickett on12/27/1998. References
