John J. Lenker, 91, of Hopewell Township, died April 23, 2008, in the Commonwealth Medical Center.
He was born December 17, 1916, in Sunbury, PA, a son of the late Ulysses and Mary Lenker. He was a graduate of Sunbury High School at the age of 16 and a graduate of Bucknell University with a Chemical Engineering degree at age 18. He was a member of the marching band and Alpha Chi Sigma Fraternity at Bucknell.
Prior to his retirement, he worked as a Metallurgical Engineer for J&L Steel Corp. for over 40 years. He was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church of Aliquippa, where he sang in the choir. He was a member of the B.P.O.E. 1221 Aliquippa. He was also the oldest charter member of the Hopewell Lions Club, receiving the Milestone Chevron Award, and was a Melvin Jones Fellow, the Lions Club highest honor.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Lillian on February 1, 2006, and a granddaughter, Dawn Lynn Liptak on February 28, 2001.
He is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law, Linda and Don Liptak, Center Township, and Gerry and Paul Huntsman, Washington, PA, and two grandsons, John Liptak, Center Township, and Justin Huntsman, North Hills.
