Obituary - John S. Lawrence. John S. Lawrence, the son of Samuel K. and Sarah Lawrence of Hartsville, Indiana, was born June 25, 1856, and departed this life at his home in Dublin, Indiana, May 7, 1931, aged 74 years, 10 months, and 12 days. He was one of a family of four children, two of whom preceded him in death. At the age of twenty-nine years he was united in marriage to Miss Tina Callecott of Hartsville, Indiana, and to this union were born two daughters, Pearl Almira who preceded her father in death Sept. 17, 1901, at the early age of fifteen years, and Minnie who spent but a brief visit here and departed April 28, 1888, at the tender age of eight months. The anticipation of a long and happy union was terminated when the reaper, whose name is Death, came and took his faithful companion to her future home on Oct. 14, 1890, at the age of thirty-seven years. He was again united in marriage to Mrs. Anna Ellabarger Feb. 2, 1892. His new companion being an Evangel of the Cross in White River Conference necessitated their moving from place to place over the conference. About eighteen years ago they resigned their work as ministers and settled down at Flatrock, Indiana, and about eight years ago they moved to Dublin, Indiana, where they resided till death overtook him. At the tender age of seven years he was converted and placed his membership with the United Brethren church at Hartsville, Indiana. He has been a faithful and conscientious follower of his Lord and his church for almost seventy years. He especially loved to attend evangelistic services, and he and his companion so worked in union with each other and with the Lord that he prospered them with many souls for their hire. He was faithful in attendance to the church and rendered all services given him when his health permitted. The United Brethren church at Dublin senses the loss of a good member but our loss is his gain. As a citizen he was one of the most highly esteemed. His good character was of such excellent report that his presence was an uplift to the community in which he lived. His even temperament and pleasant smile compelled the admiration of his neighbors. As a husband and father he was one to be highly praised for his management in family and business affairs. Those who mourn their loss are his faithful wife of Dublin, Indiana, one brother, David Lawrence, of Sharron Spring, Kansas, eight nephews, many other relatives and a host of neighbors and friends. Funeral conducted by Rev. Howard Brown, assisted by Rev. Clayton Smith.
