In census records, I've come across both a John Jr. and a John S., who appear to be closer in age than father and son would be. Is it possible that the information is incorrect about John S.'s father?

Listed in the 1840 Wilkinson County, Georgia Census, District 327 as John S. Lavender. In the household are: 1 male age 5-9, 1 male age 10-14, 1 male age 15-19, 1 male age 40-49, 1 female under age 5, 1 female age 5-9, 1 female age 10-14, 2 females age 15-20, 1 female age 40-49.

Listed in the 1850 Wilkinson County, Georgia Census, Subdivision 93, enumerated August 28th, page 340, Dwelling 48, Household 48 as John Lavender, age 63, Farmer, born NC. Listed with wife Elizabeth, 55, F; Sarah, 19, F; Martha, 18, F; Hannah, 16, F; Elijah, 13, M. Next door is Daniel and family. There's also a John S. Lavender in Dwelling and Household 776, age 60, born NC. With Elizabeth, age 57, born NC; Hannah, age 16, born GA; Martha, age 13, born GA.

Listed in the 1860 Wilkinson County, Georgia Census, Ramah District, enumerated June 25, page 917, Dwelling 399, Household 401 as John S. Lavinder, age 70, farmer, born GA, pauper. With Martha, age 23, born GA, cannot read or write. Next door to Finney Lavinder, male, age 26, born GA, and family.
