"John Kimbrough, born ca 1740 - 45, lived in North Carolina (Wake, Yadkin Counties), said to have moved to Georgia in the late 1700's, also said to have remained at Raleigh when the rest of the family moved west. ?Marmaduke Kimbrough left a son at the 'Hed of Huwary' when he moved on to Rowan County.? On February 10, 1769, Marma?duke and his wife Mary deeded ?Hed of Huwary? to John Kimbrough. These statements imply that Huwary was in Orange (Wake) County, North Carolina. However the will of John gave his son John ?the lands where he now lives, called Uwarry.? These references to Huwary and Uwarry, together with Rev. Soelle's reference ca 1772-3 to Uharie and John Kimbrough in the vicinity bf Salem (Winston-Salem) suggest that perhaps Uharie, Uwarry, and Huwary are different versions of the came name, that of John Kimbrough's estate. There is a place in Montgomery County, North Carolina about 50 miles south of Winston-Salem, called Uwharie. The Rev. Soelle frequently visited John Kimbrough, sometimes preached in his home (which was within a day's journey of Salem), and spoke of him as the most important man in the neighborhood, and an Assemblyman from Guilford County, although ?he was quite young.? In 1773 John Kimbrough built a tavern near his home to relieve his home from the constant stream of visitors. If Huwary was near Raleigh, which was in the Orange County of 1769, the John Kimbrough of Rev. Soelle's acquaintance, and Assemblyman from Guilford County, was probably a son of Bradley Kimbrough, who lived nearby." "This John Kimbrough could have been the Assemblyman from Guilford County, North Carolina. He had cousins of about the same age that have been confused."
