Facts and Events
Born in Chelmsford, Massachusetts on August 14, 1674. He lived in Marlborough, Massachusetts, removing about 1720 to Shrewsbury, Massachusetts. He was one of the founders of the first Church. He was known as Captain, and later as Major. Three of his sons were burned to death in a fire, which broke out in a house he was building in Shrewsbury in 1723.
He married March 11, 1696 to Mary Eames, daughter of Gresham and Hannah Johnson Eames. She was born March 1677 and died on April 11, 1772. He died March 31, 1768.

Will of "John Keyes of Shrewsbury ... Esq'r Being come to a considerable age", dated 29 Nov 1758, proved 16 May 1768, names son Gershom Keyes; son Daniel Rand & his Children ... my daughter Mary ... she being wife to ye said Daniel; daughter Hannah Tayler; my son Silas Witherbey & Thankful his wife; my son Joshua Wilder & Sarah his wife; my daughter Phebe Morse ... & her husband ... the Children Born of her Body; grand daughter Mary Rand; money divided between five daughters or their heirs and Sarah Keyes ye wife of my son Gershom; small piece of land to friend Joseph Miles of Shrewsbury. "I have taken sufficient care for the support of my wife heretofore". Silas Witherbey & Thankful his wife, Hannah Tayor & my granson Stephen Flagg to be executors. 18 May 1768: Inventory of John Keyes Esq'r prized at Shrewsbury, by Artemas Ward, Henry Baldwin & Samuel Crosbey: £144-19-5, includes "small piece of land given to Joseph Mills by will since deceased". 6 Sep 1768: Stephen Flagg declines executorship.
