I am having trouble(as are many other folk)finding more information on John Greene Kerr (b.10 Oct,1822, Tazewell co., VA -d.11 Jun,1903). I descend from his son, James Alexander Kerr. I have a question involving Civil War family politics.
James Alexander Kerr(b.16 Oct,1852-d.19 Nov,1926) was in Colorado mining for gold when his daughter Kate was born (October 29, 1882). His wife Ada Rebel Whitfield died not long after (June 25, 1883, in Dexter, Cooke Co., Texas). Ada Rebel's parents (Harrison & Sophronia Whitfield) raised the young Kate, because James Kerr was not welcomed back by his In-laws. To them, he was known as the "Damned Yankee." James went on to became a Methodist minister, marry Nina Fox and have 8 more children.
Does anyone know the Civil War history of John Greene Kerr?
Thank you, Brian Wolf

Nancy,
I am also a descendant of Martha D. Witten and John Greene Kerr through their son Thomas Lewis Kerr and his son William Forrest Kerr, who was my grandfather. E-mail me and I will be happy to forward you my Witten file and any of my Kerr information you want.
Carolyn
