John was b. 18sep1869 at Arkley, Herts, son of James Kerr, MA, a former principal of Hoogly and Hindu College, Calcutta, and of Sybella Graham of Hollows, Dumfriess (Royal Society, England). John Graham Kerr was chr. 21nov1869 at Chipping Barnet, Herts, son of James Kerr and Sybella Rome (IGI). John died 21apr1957 at Barley, nr. Royston, Herts. He married 1903 Elizabeth Mary Kerr (d.1934), a cousin, daughter of Thomas Kerr, WS, and had 2 sons and 1 daughter. The marriage of John Graham Kerr is recorded on scotlandspeople. In 1936 he married Mrs. Alan Clapperton of Lochwinnoch, daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. Dunn Macindoe of Glasgow (Times and Dic. Nat. Biog.). The John Graham Kerr Chair of Zoology was founded in 1965 and named for Sir John Graham Kerr (1869-1957), the Regius Professor of Zoology at the University from 1902 until 1935 and a member of Court, 1913-1921. The Zoology Building was renamed the Graham Kerr Building in his honour. Kerr studied Medicine at the University of Edinburgh and Natural Sciences at Christ’s College, Cambridge. He joined two expeditions to South America and specimens collected on the second expedition are preserved at the University. He was involved in many scientific organisations, including the Royal Philosophical Society of Glasgow (of which he was a President). In 1935 he was elected a Member of Parliament for the Scottish Universities and held the seat until it was abolished in 1950. He was knighted in 1939. (Glasgow University). References
