Military history
18 August 1881: Joined Leicestershire Regiment - 17th Foot, for 12 years, aged 19. (The same regiment his son John joined during WW1)
6 August 84: Promoted to Corporal.
22 August 86: Reverted to Private due to pending criminal trial.
19 October 86: Tried and convicted at Winchester Court of stealing boots from Richard Luck in Aldershot. Sentenced to 2 months hard labour. Age 24.
19 December 86: Returns to service
18 August 88: Transferred to reserve (I believe this means he leaves service
12 Dec 88: Marries
17 August 93: Completes contracted period of service
