John Hutchinson was baptised on 14th February 1819 at Richmond in Yorkshire, son of a military musician (later coachsmith) named William Hutchinson and his wife Jane.

By 1861 John was married to a Hannah and living in Sunderland, where he worked as a shipwright. The 1861 census finds them living at 2 Kirtleys Buildings, which was the same address John's father, William, had died at in 1858. John has yet to be traced after 1861.
