LaCrosse, WI : Brookhaven Press, 2000 [Reprint], p 743: In 1845, John Hurd came to Des Moines County, Iowa, and engaged in farming till 1857. John went to Appanoose County two years; then to Anderson County, Kansas, for five and a half years; then returned to Appanoose County for eight years, and in the spring of 1873, came to Davis Co Iowa. They were living in Washington Township, Appanoose County, Unionville, Iowa, 1870 census. They have ten children, two deceased.
