    John Hull was granted land on Pigeon Creek, Ohio County (now Washington Co.), Pennsylvania on Feb 10 1787.

    Transcript: Edmund Randolph Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia to all to whom these presents shall come Greeting. Know Ye that by Virtue of a Certificate in Light of Settlement Given by the Commissioners for adjusting Titles to unpatented Lands in the District of Monogalia, Yohogania and Ohio and in Consideration of the Ancient Composition of Twenty five Shillings Sterling paid by John Hull into the Treasury of this Commonwealth, there is Granted by the said Commonwealth unto the said John Hull a Certain tract or parcel of Land containing Two Hundred and fifteen acres by survey bearing the date the Twenty Sixth day of May one Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty, lying and being in the county of Ohio (formerly Yohogania) on Pigeon Creek and Bounded as followeth To Wit Beginning at two large Ash trees, thence North Eighty degrees East Two Hundred Poles to a Spanish and white oaks, thence North fourteen degrees West one Hundred and Twenty four Poles to two hickories at a Small Drain, thence along the Drain to two Sugar trees thence North Seventy five degrees West eighty eight Poles to a large Sycamore on Pigeon Creek, thence up Pigeon Creek to two Pines, thence to the Beginning With its Appurtenances To have and to hold the said tract or parcel of Land, With its Appurtenances: to the said John Hull and his Heirs for ever. In witness whereof the said Edmund Randolph Esquire Governor of the Commonwealth of Virginia hath here unto set his Hand and Caused the (?) Seal of the said Commonwealth to be Affixed at Richmond on the Tenth Day of February in the Year of our Lord, one Thousand Seven Hundred and Eighty Seven and of the Commonwealth the Eleventh[1]

    According to the Patent Index, the original Warantee of this land was Samuel Hull, and John received patent to an additional 426 acres at the same time.[2] He died about a year later, as there are receipts relating to the administration of his estate dated Jun 1788, and probate on his will was completed in 1790.[3] Rachel Hull is named as the administrator of his estate, and the executor was John Vannatta.

    Moses Hull and Elizabeth Hull both above the age of 14 years the minor children of John Hull late of Robinson Township deceased came into court and made choice of a John McDonald of Robinson Township as the Guardian of their persons & properties who was accordingly appointed by the court. John McDonald & Alexander Wright of Robinson Township were appointed by the Court Guardians of the persons & property of Rachel, John, Ruth, & Geisham, minor children under 14 years of age of John Hull late of Robinson Township, deceased. 24 Sept. 1792

    1794 records relating to the probate of the estate of John Hull document the marriage of his widow Rachel to John Vanatta and the transfer of guardianship of his minor children.[4]

    Research Notes

    There are records of a Francis Hull who was granted land in the same region and who may be a brother.[5]
    There are also a Samuel and a Nathaniel Hull on the 1789 tax and exoneration lists for Cumberland, Washington Co. PA.[6] This was aboout 25 miles from Pigeon Creek.
