Heserved until the surrender at Shreveport, Louisiana on 28 June1865. He was a private. Mary Ann Adkins Hudgens states she wasmarried on January 3, 1856 at Athens, Louisiana. Her hubanddied on March 17th 1891. She has resided in LA for 52 years.Her husband died from Dropsy and Hemmorage of the bowels? and isburied in Athens, LA.

Witnesses were J.M. Camp at Haynesville, LA; W. J. Smith,Homer, LA; both witnesses were comrades of John M. Hudgens.

On December 11, 1916, , heirs of Mary Ann and John M. Hudgensfiled for money due their deceased mother. Heirs were L. M.Hudgens, S. E. Hudgens. H. W. Hudgens. Mrs. L. F. Mullenix?, T.F. Mullenix, and Emmagene Miller.A check in the amount of $14.75was issued to them on January 17, 1917.
