DEATH'S DOINGS - ANOTHER OLD CITIZEN PASSES TO THE BETTER WORLD - John Horner, a citizen and lifelong resident of Shelby, died at the family home, corner of Broadway and Whitney avenue, Friday evening, of dropsy, aged 73 years, 5 months and 14 days. Mr. Horner was born in Cumberland county, Md., April 22, 1826, and at the age of 9 years removed with his mother to Mansfield, where he resided for several years. During the year 1848 he came to Shelby and in 1850 was married to Ellen M. Rogers. To this happy union were born nine children, five of whom still survive. They are Will and Lorenzo of this city; Mrs. Emma Rambo, of Elk Falls, Kansas; Mrs. Ervin Shearer and Mrs. C. Gates, both of Shelby. The funeral was held at the late residence of the deceased, Sunday afternoon at one o'clock, conducted by the Rev. Mr. McClay. of the M.E. church, and was largely attended.
