John Hopping was born in June 1799 and died on August 29, 1844. In June 1846 his Executor filed an estate settlement paper in Coles County. This settlement paper mentioned his heirs by name: Rachel Hopping, Alfred Johnson, Sarah Jane Hopping, and Jeremiah Hopping.
John lived in Clark County, Ohio, before he and his family moved to Coles County, Illinois. He was listed in Harmony township, Clark County, Ohio, in the 1830 federal census. Also, the federal land certificates for parcels he bought in Coles County, Illinois, in the 1830s refer to him as "John Hopping of Clark County, Ohio."
A photo of John Hopping's gravestone on findagrave.com shows this inscription: "JOHN HOPPING died Aug. 29 1844 Aged 45 yrs 2 ms & -- ds."
