John T. Hingtgen


KIELER, Wis. - John T. "Bud" Hingtgen, 88, of Kieler, passed away Monday, April 29, 2013, at Stonehill Care Center surrounded by his family.


A Mass of Christian burial will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, May 4, at Immaculate Conception Catholic Church, Kieler, with the Rev. Bernard Rott officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery, where military rites will be accorded by members of American Legion Post 104 of Cuba City. Friends may call from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, May 3, at Miller Funeral Home, East Dubuque, Ill., where the parish Scripture service will be at 2:45 p.m. Friends also may call from 9:15 to 10:15 a.m. Saturday at Immaculate Conception Parish Center, Kieler.


He was born on Jan. 17, 1925, in Zwingle, Iowa, son of Ted and Dolly (McCarthy) Hingtgen. He married Vivian Pancratz on May 29, 1951, at St. Joseph's Prairie Church, rural Dubuque.


John served in the Army during World War II, stationed in the Phillipines. One of his proudest moments was being able to go on the first Honor Flight out of Dubuque to Washington, D.C., on May 18, 2010.


He worked at the Dubuque Packing Co. for 32½ years.


John was a volunteer firefighter for the Jamestown Volunteer Fire Department in Kieler for 18 years. He also was a member of American Legion Post 104 of Cuba City.


Those left to cherish his memory are his wife of 61 years, Vivian; his children, Paul (Jan) Hingtgen, of Norfolk, Neb., Susan (Eldon) Tranel, of Menominee, Ill., Marla (Kevin) Jirak, of Tucson, Ariz., Mark Hingtgen, of Norfolk, Mary Hingtgen, of Dubuque, Richard (Mary Kane) Hingtgen, of Kieler, Dale Hingtgen, of Dubuque, Lisa (Mike) Beaves, of Des Moines, Alan (Susan) Hingtgen, of Rantoul, Ill., Jerry (Liz) Hingtgen, of Gilbert, Ariz., and Amy (Jim) Sprague, of rural Hazel Green, Wis. John was the grandfather to Karissa (Gabriel) Sanabria, of San Diego, Arica (Juan Gonzalez) Hingtgen, of Mesa, Ariz., Ted Hingtgen, of Kieler, Anna Hingtgen, of Camp Verde, Ariz., Molly (Derek) Nelson, of New Ulm, Minn., Andy Hingtgen, of Milwaukee, Nicole Tranel, of Oak Park, Ill., Katie (Corey) Lenz, of Appleton, Wis., Abby (Dustin) Young, of Ankeny, Iowa, Adam Beaves, of Des Moines, Christopher Hingtgen, of Denver, Roberta Hingtgen, of Rantoul, Ava, Ben and Maria Sprague, of rural Hazel Green; eight stepgrandchildren; two great-grandchildren, Hayden Hingtgen, of Kieler, and Tiffany Hingtgen, of Milwaukee; a brother, Wayne Hingtgen, of Dubuque; sisters-in-law, Bernice Schuster, Monica Pancratz and Lillian Kies; and brother-in-law and sister-in-law, LeRoy and Inez Pancratz.


He was preceded in death by his parents; sister, Bernadine Geisler; and in-laws, Clarence and Theresa Thole, Charles (Dorothy) Pancratz, Liz (Vess) Ambrosy, Kenneth Pancratz, Henry Schuster, Karl Kies, Pete Ament and Eugene Geisler.
