John was found on the 1880 census for Dist 27, Eagle Rock and Willow Creek, Oneida Co., Idaho. He was 7 years old and his parents were George F. Heath and wife Annie. George was born in Mississippi and Annie in Denmark. This is the same area that his father-in-law is found in 1880 so Jack and Bertha could have been raised in the same community. This area was largely still unsettled; in 1885 it became Bingham County and in 1911 it became Bonneville County.

John is found again in 1910 Census Dist 0291, Idaho Falls Ward 3, Bingham, Idaho with the family of William D. and Minnie Rodgers who also have severa men rooming with them. Among the boarders are John Heath and his brother-in-law, Ray Jackson. John is 37 years old, married one time for 10 years. But his wife is not with him at the rooming house.

John is found in 1920 Census Dist 101, Idaho Falls, Bonneville, Idaho rooming with John A. Platt. John is 46, widowed, born in Idaho, a teamster whose father was born in Mississippi and mother born in Denmark. His native tongue was Danish.
