Jack worked as a carpenter for the colliery, later the National Coal Board, mostly working on miners' housing. 1913 - Jack joined Portsmouth Football Club as goalkeeper, but his career was cut short by an injury to his back and/or neck. As a result he did not serve in the First World War, but he continued in sport, being a very proficient cricketer. He is said to have been the captain of Philadelphia Cricket Club for many years. 1917 - Living at 3 Varna St. Joiner. 1930 - Became colliery carpenter. Later worked for the National Coal Board. |
