John Michael Hartzell was born January 22, 1878 at the Seneca County Infirmary. As a result of this birth, his mother died Feb 3, 1878. This mother was Ellen Clark, and his father was Harrison William Hartzell. Harrison was unable to care for his children after his wife's death, mostly due to a Civil War injury that made it difficult for him to earn a living. Michael and Adilaide Breidenbach adopted John in May, 1878 and his name then became legally John Michael Breidenbach. I am assuming that they were unable to have children on their own. The family lived on Circular Street until 1887 when they moved to Cleveland. There Michael died on December 15, 1890 of "Dropsey of the Heart".
