    MISSING SHIP.-The Gartcraig, from London for Quebec, arrived in the Downs on the 2d of April, and has not since been heard of.

    Crew list includes John Harris, 24, born Poole. Previous ship the Gartcraig. Joined current voyage 29 Mar 1864 at London as Only Mate. Note alongside most of the crew's names: "Ship never heard of since leaving the Downs on the 4th April 1864" (exceptions being a couple of crew members who were discharged or deserted before the ship left London). Letter from ship's owner, Thomas Hanhill, dated 3 Oct 1864 accompanies crew list regarding "...the wages and effects of the crew of of the Barque "Gartcraig", which sailed from London in Ballast on the 31st March last bound to Quebec and has never reached her destination...".
