"6. John3 Harris (Daniel2, Thomas1), born in Middletown 4 January 1667[/8], died on 29 November 1754, age 88, and was buried in Old Farm Hill Cemetery in Middletown. On 23 January 1667/8, Winthrop noted a prescription for 'Harris John, 3 weekes old son of Daniell at Middletown.' … In February 1698/9, the town of Middletown granted John Harris a parcel of land 'to run from the east end of his house westward … to John Stows Lott.' Presumably, 'his house' at that time was his parents' home, which was formally given to him a few weeks later by his father's will in return for their maintenance. In November 1728, Sergeant John Harris of Middletown took a mortgage from James Johnson for land with a house and barn on the east side of the Connecticut River, adjoining west on Benjamin Harris's land, north on land originally belonging to John Cornwall, deceased, and south on Philip Goff s land. Benjamin Harris witnessed. John's will, dated 30 April 1754 and proved 30 November 1754, named wife Mindwell (estate she brought at marriage); eldest daughter Sarah (wife of Nathaniel Baker); grandson Harris Jones, only son of daughter Jane (sometime the wife of Timothy Jones) deceased; granddaughters Elizabeth, Deborah, and Susannah (children of Jane), youngest daughter Rachel (wife of William Prout); Susannah Robberds ('eldest daughter of my first wife, which she had by her former husband'), John Harris son of Deacon Benjamin Harris; and grandson John Prout. There is no known evidence that the Benjamin Harris mentioned in John's will was related."
