Dorothy Drever; Toronto 1956
At his wedding he wore the fawn and gold satin kerchief which Aunt Eliza gave to William Drever when he returned from Canada for a visit to Pharay in 1918. His bride was a sister of Stewart Drummond (a real old worthy who could be heard shouting about three miles away when he was out in the west firth at the cod fishing. He had the farm of Holland in Pharay). John fished herring for Gillies Bennington, a herring curer of Stronsay. John drowned in Holm Sound. He had walked to Holm when the tide was out but had delayed too long. When he came back the tide was beginning to run through very strongly, he lost his footing and was swept out in the deep water. A boat reached him very soon after but he was dead when taken aboard.
