    From Research of Denzil Mauldin:

    1. Some researchers indicate that John Hale, son of Nicholas and Ann (Long) Hale, is the same John listed in the will of Richard Haile, dated 1784. Richard being the son of Francis Haile. However, a study of these early families comparing available dates and events prove that John Hale, above and Richard Haile, son of Francis, were of approximately the same age. Note that the two Haile families, Nicholas Haile and Francis Haile, resided and were close association with some of the same neighboring families of Bedford County, Virginia. One of the individuals was William Arthur who was a witness to the whiff of Guy Smith, father-in-law to Abednigo Haile. According to the 1782 Tax List for Bedford co., VA., as copied by Valerie Jean Suddarth, 26962 Via Escorial, Mission Viejo, CA. 92691, Jan. 23, 1989, the following entry is listed:

"Richard Haile, John Haile his son, Negroes-Bob, Dafney, Prudy, Rachell, Benn, Randoll and Amy. Personal property and tithes: 5 pounds 2 shillings 3 pence. Free whites over 21-one, Slaves- seven, horses-four, cattle-seventeen, White tithes over 16-two, Blacks over 16-three."

(Jean notes that Richard's son, John, according to this record who have been born ca 1761-1766, or age 16-21). These dates support the theory that John Haile, husband of Nancy "Ann" Overstreet, is not the son of Richard Haile.)

    2. 1810 Census, Bedford County., VA. John Haile and wife bother over the age of 45, and family: one male born ca 1784-94, and one male & one female born ca 1794-1800. ( From these age groups of children, it would appear that the male born. 1784-94 is Meshack Haile, & the male born. 1794-1800 is William.)

    3. See A History of the Myers, Overstreet, & Gray Families by Jourdon G. Myer, 1984, pp. 296-297. Listed as the children of Thomas Overstreet born. ca 1720 & died. 14 Dec. 1791, are Thomas Overstreet, Jr., born Oct. 15, 1744, Nancy Anne Overstreet born. ca 1748, m. ca 1767 John Hale, William Overstreet died June 24.
(Note- John Haile, husband of Nancy Overstreet, would had to been born ante 1750 to have wed in about 1767.)
