John Griffith was drafted in Carlisle, Pennsylvania 16 Oct. 1862 and mustered in Nov 1 as a private with Company A, 158th Pennsylvania Infantry. He was honorably discharged with his company 12 Aug, 1863. then enlisted as a commissary sergeant of Company D, 20th Pennsylvania Cavalry (181st Pa.) On June 17, 1865, he transferred to Co. D. 1st Pennsylvania Provisional Cavalry as part of a consolidation at the end of the war. This information is from his Find A Grave Memorial #70944709.
