" Genealogical Notes:

Griffin, John was born in Orange Co., N.C. about 1752 and served as a Private under Col. Thackston & Col Lytle in the Fourth North Carolina Regiment over a seven year period. He was promoted to Captain in 1778. In his pension application, filed from Maury Co., in 1828, he stated that he had lost an affidavit from his superior officer affirming his service during the Revolutionary War. Evidently, for lack of proof of service, he never received a pension. He married Jane_______in 1783 and immigrated to Gibson Co., Tenn. and, in 1807, to Maury Co., settling near the south of Fountain Creek. They had seven children, several of whom settled in Maury Co. He died 28 Dec 1829 and his wife returned to Gibson Co., where she died in 1840.
