Disputed Lineage

Many online trees claim he was the son of John Greenslate and Elizabeth Stephens, but there is no evidence for this, and since they married late in 1772, it would put him under 18 at the time he enlisted in the U.S. Regiment.

FamilySearch Family Tree claims he was the son of John Greenslate and Elizabeth Underhill, who married Jun 1767 in Crediton, Devon, but the only baptism records where they might be the parents appear to be for daughters.
