John P. Grant was a lawyer. He was District Attorney for one term, County Judge and Surrogate of the same county 1899 - 1913. He was appointed to office by New York Gov. Theodore Roosevelt. Afterwards he was elected to two full terms. He was General Solicitor for the Ulster and Delaware Railroad during the Federal Administration of Railroads.
