John's second marriage (to Louisa Shoesmith in Edenbridge, Kent) states he was a bachelor, however there is evidence that he was the same person who earlier married Elizabeth Batchelor. John's child from his marriage to Elizabeth, George, was living with John's parents William and Sophia in the 1841 census in Hartfield. George's burial record states he was living in Hartfield (e.g. probably with his grandparents William & Sophia), and that he was buried in Withyham e.g. probably with his mother Elizabeth who was buried in 1837.
