"12. John3 Gilbert (Thomas,2 Thomas1), born Oct. 18, 1657, at Springfield, Mass.; died at Stratford, Conn., in August or September, 1709; …

On Sept. 22, 1709, the Probate Court at Fairfield appointed Hannah Gilbert, widow and relict of John Gilbert, with Zachariah Blakeman, to administer upon the estate of John Gilbert, deceased, and accepted the inventory, which shows an estate of £332.13.00, including one house, a barn and shop, six acres of land adjoining, six more in the rear, twelve acres of pasture, four acres of meadow, and right in commonages. The names and ages of the children are given thus: 'Thomas Gilbert 13 years old last April, Josiah 10 years old last March, John 8 years old last March, Sarah 3 year old ye 10th day of last November,' agreeing perfectly with their ages as recorded upon Stratford records. The eldest daughter Hannah is not mentioned because she was of age and married to Jabez Harger. In the order of distribution, dated Nov. 1, 1710, the three sons and the two daughters are included. The final distribution was not made until Mar. 13, 1723/4, after the death of John Gilbert, Jr."
