Foster
(II) John , son of David Foster , was a merchant tailor in Strasburg, Lancaster county . He married Elizabeth Ferree , born in 1762 , died in 1810, daughter of Philip Ferree, Jr., born 1730, died 1796, son of Philip Ferree, born 1687, died 1753, son of Daniel and Maria Ferree, Daniel Ferree, a silk weaver of Lindau, France, at the Revocation of the Edict of Nantes in the year 1685, fled to Germany, where he died near Strasburg. Owing to religious persecutions which still followed them into the Palatinate, his widow Maria (Warenbauer) Ferree, came to America in 1708 with her six children and a son-in-law, Isaac Le Fevre, who had married her daughter Catherine . They settled first in Ulster county, New York, later coming to Strasburg, Pennsylvania, where two thousand acres of land were laid out to the widow, November 7, 1712, and in which ground she was buried in 1716, said to have been the first person buried in the plot set aside for burial purposes. These two thousand acres were patented by the proprietors, William Penn and his brother, to Daniel Ferree (her son), and Isaac Le Fevre (her son-in-law), and they border on the borough of Strasburg. Several farms taken therefrom are yet held in the Le Fevre family, although Ferree as a surname has disappeared from that locality, but is frequently found used as a Christian name.
