Facts and Events
Oswell Ellison's notes on the Hopkins book say that although John Farley, Sr. was born and lived in Charles City, VA, he also lived in Henrico County, VA which (I assume) is where he met Mary (whose maiden name is unkown) because their child, John Jr., was born in Henrico County. John Sr. and wife Mary married in about 1667, and their son, John Jr., was born in 1670. The Hopkins book says that John Farley had a twin brother named William. Probable twin to William. One reference states that Richard and John were twins rather than John and William. Proof of his age is found in a disposition of property entered in a Henrico Co. (now Chesterfield Co.) court record for 1679, in which he stated that he was 31 years old. Reference: Gulf States Historical Magazine, Vol. 1, page 428. In 1692 he witnessed a deed from Peter Field and wife, Judith, to Henry Walthall. (This land had been granted to Mrs. Field in 1678 while she was the widow of Henry Randolph.) Also John Farley appraised the estate of John Stewart, Sr. (deceased 1706), in Chesterfield Co. Reference: Ibid., page 428. In 1708 John Farley, Sr., of Bristol Parish, Chesterfield Co., made a deed of gift of "my old plantation to my daughter, Mary, wife of Thomas Baugh," and in 1732 a deed of gift of a plantation to son, James Farley, in which he mentions his wife, Mary, and also sons Joseph, John, Matthew, and William Farley.
