It seems likely that he was English; as John FARDEL he took the pledge of allegiance to the English king at Port Royal in 1695 (old style) (MASS.ARCH., vol.II, fol.540).

MARRIAGE: Must have been after 1681, when Pierre DAIGLE was born.

!CENSUS: 1686, Port Royal, Acadia, age 46 years (sic), living with wife and her 7 children with [1st husband] Oliver DAIGLE. They have 1 gun, 5 arpens worked land, 13 cattle, 13 sheep and 8 pigs.

!CENSUS: 1698, Port Royal, Acadia, age 60 years (sic), living with wife Marie GODET age 50, and Jean [DAIGLE], age 22. They have 12 cattle, 15 sheep, 10 hogs, on 6 arpents, with 15 fruit trees; 1 gun, 1 servant. [Who? This census lists 8 unnamed servants among the 575 persons named at Port Royal.]
