- Simpson County, Kentucky Court Orders
- April Call Term April 1st 1884
- At a Call Term of the Simpson county Court begun and held at the Court House in Franklin, Simpson County, Kentucky on the 1st day of April 1884, present Hon. J.L. Sanford Judge.
- On Motion of Dr. G.W. Duncan, it appearing to the satisfaction of the Court that John C. Estes departed this life on the __ day of March 1884 in said County intestate leaving surviving him his widow Sarah Jane Estes who has waived her right to administer on her deceased husband's estate. It is therefore ordered that said G.W. Duncan be and he is hereby granted letters of Administration upon the estate of said decedent. Whereupon in open Court he took the oath required by law and with Dr. J.C. Douglas his surety executed and acknowledged bond to the Commonwealth of Kentucky conditioned according to law, which bond is approved by the Court.
- It is ordered that W. Jasper Durent, Dr. J.W. Neely, and Y.H.? Dodson, or any two of them who being first duly sworn do appraise the personal estate of John C. Estes deceased. and they will ___ their appraisement to this Court within three months from the date hereof; also a list of articles and value of each set apart separately from the articles for sale.
- Ordered that the Court adjourn.

- The following property Set apart for the benefit of the Widow of the late John C. Estes dec'd. this day April 4, 1884.
- 1 ~ 1 Sorrell Aged Mule, 1 Gray Mule assd. @ 100.00: $200.00
- 2 ~ $15.00 in money in lieu of 10 head of Sheep: 15.00
- 3 ~ Two head of Milk Cows and 1 Yearling Steer (in lieu of 2 Calves): $60.00
- 4 ~ All the poultry: 10.00
- (in lieu of Spuer? Yarn, Capeling & Cloth we allow in Cash: 20.00
- 5th ~ 1 Family Bible, wearing apparel, Cards, Spinning wheel, two beds, bedding and furniture: 40.00
- 6th ~ 1/2 Doz plates, 1/2 Doz. Cups & Saucers, Coffee Pot, 1/2 Doz Knives & forks, 1 Oven, One Pot, One Cooking Stove and Appendaces & Other Cooking Utencils, 1/2 Doz chairs, one Saddle & bridle, 1 plow, One horse & Grars, 1 Axe, 1 hoe and One Sewing Machine: 40.00
- 7th ~ 800 lbs bacon, 30 lbs. Corn, 25 bushels wheat and $40.00 Cash (in lieu of a Sufficient Allowance of bread Stuff): 205.00
- 7th ~ In liew of an insufficient Amount Set Aside above to make $750 An Amount Allowed by law to the widow we make the following additional allowance Viz:
- 1 Bed & bedding, 1 safe, one bureau, One Clock: 30.00
- 1 Two house plough, 1 One horse plow & harness: 7.00
- 1 Wagon, 4 hoes, 1 axe & Goubbing hoe: 50.00
- We Certify that the following Appraisement is a true inventory of the Goods and Chattels of the estate of the late John C. Estes dec'd. estate made this day 4 April 1884.
