John and Susanna moved to Mercer County in the spring of 1834, where they lived the rest of their lives. He was a Tailor by trade and also operated a Tavern from his home, keeping day books from 13 Dec 1823 until the year of his death. These day books, written in German, kept track of the monies he took in and spent, including loans. John was elected treasurer 28 May 1836 of the Jerusalem Church (Reformed) and was elected a school director in Hickory Township on 12 March 1845. John died 25 January 1853 and Susanna on 22 March 1855. They were interred in the Old Dutch Hill Cemetery (also known as Hickory Hill Cemetery), near Hermitage, in Hickory Township, at the site where the old Jerusalem German Church stood. Descendants of this family spoke German until World War I.

Most of the information on this family comes from the records of James A. Ash, a 2nd great grandson, who still [1991] lives in Mercer County, he having in his possession the family records referred to above (Story by James M. Ash).
