From "Ellis Cousins Newsletters" Spring 1988:

"Family Cemeteries in Davie Co., North Carolina" found in the Davie Co., Library in Mocksville, North Carolina, "We were shown by Dr. J. P. Clingman a few days hence, two very old graves near his residence. It is a notable fact that no one can tell (so far s we know) anything about them yet they are two of the oldest county names. The inscription upon the first is "Elvira Johnson, died Dec. 28 1754 in her 18th year."On the other, "John Ellis born April (hole in paper) 1723 and died Jan 26, 1753 (hole) Growing directly on the grave of Ellis is a (hole) poplar tree, extending from the (hole) of the grave to the foot. Two (hole) have grown almost entirely (hole) the foot stone. We measured (hole) tree 30 inches from the ground and found it to be 11 feet in circumference
