At 4 years of age, John C. moved with his parents to Ohio (must have been Tuscarawas County, because his brother born there in 1840). From age 4 to 11 he lived in Ohio, and then with his parents, moved on to Wabash County, Indiana. He received an education in Wabash County, and then became Deputy Clerk of Wabash County. In 1858 he moved to LaGrange County, where he became Deputy Clerk there. A year later he moved to Muncie, Indiana. He took a couple of positions with the Federal Government in Washington, D. C., and then returned to Muncie. He was Post Master there, and later a member of the City Council. He was also a Justice of the Peace. He was admitted to the bar in 1859, but never practiced law. He had an insurance and loan business. He was nominated for Mayor of Muncie, but was not elected. He was the editor of the Muncie Times. --White Creek 16:03, 18 August 2012 (EDT) References
