John Earp patented "Maklams Friendship" near "Lurgan" in 1719-1721 and paid rent (taxes) to the colonial proprietor with his brother Joseph Earp Sr. (Land Patent, Liber IL No. A, folios 455,456, Land Records Office, M.H.R.) When he sold both properties in 1728, (Baltimore Co. Superior Court-Land Records, Liber is No. 1, folios 254,255,258.) John Earp is listed in the deed recording these transactions as a resident of Stafford (later Fairfax Co. Va.) and this is the earliest known record of the Earp name in Virginia. John Earp's estate was probated in 1745 in Fairfax Co. |
