1 May 1738: Ordered that John Durrett be overseer of Bush's Road in the room of Abraham Mayfield "who is removed out of the County" [see Spotsylvania County VA Court Orders, 1738-1740, page 6].


On 14 Dec 1739 in Caroline Co. John DURRETT and Mary his wife acknowledge their deeds fo lease and release of land indented to " Barthw. DURRATT. ( J. F. .Dorman, CAROLINE COUNTY, VA., ORDER BOOK 1732- 1740, pt. 3 -Washington 1967-,p. 72) This may have been part of his 400 acre patent dated 29 June 1739 for land on the south side of Ta River.


Virginia Land Patent Book 18. pg. 336 On 02 Sep 1742 John DURRETT and Mary his wife of St. George Parish, Spotsylvania County, VA. sold for 20 pounds 200 acres of land in St. Marks Parish, Orange Co., being one-half of a tract patented to John 08 Sept. 1732.


The 1745 patent to John Durrett of 400 acres on the branches of the river Ta, a branch of Mattapony River, beginning and extending in Joseph Brocks line a corner to John Durrets land in sight of a parcel of pines on the upper side Black Rock Swamp ~ all in Spotsylvania County

A John Durrett had a wife named Mary and by land records prove she was living before and after 1748 when Henry Goodloe died leaving Catharine wife of John Durrett in will. John and Mary's children by will are Sarah, Elizabeth, Mary who married ca 1751 James Wigglesworth. Ann, Richard

I John Durrett of Spotsylvania Co. for the trust and confidence that I have in James Chiles of sd. Co. do constitute and appoint him to be my lawful attorney to demand and receive of any person or persons as well in the sd. colony of Virginia as in any other of his majesties colonies dominions or provinces a certain Negro boy slave named Kitt now said to be in the possession of Gibson Jones in one of the Carolina Provinces. In case Negro Kitt shall not be delivered up for my use, I impower sd. Chiles to sue the sd. person in whose possession the sd. Negro Kitt shall be 15 May 1768.


On Feb 20, 1766 John DURRETT of Spotsylvania County and Richard DURRETT of Albemarle County gave George MARTIN of Albamarle Co. a slave girl Delphia. After the death of George MARTIN, the slave and her increase were to be divided between Sally and Susannah MARTIN, daughters fo George MARTIN "by his last wife Molly".- Albarmarle Co., VA., Deed Book 4, p234, recorded 4 July 1766.
