John Colin Dunlop was born 30dec1785 at Glasgow (IGI) and christened 3jan1786 (Latter Day Saints), son of John Dunlop and Janet Miller (IGI). From “The Faculty of Advocates in Scotland” (Scottish record society, 1944): reg. 10 mar 1807 - John Colin Dunlop, eldest son of John Dunlop, collector of customs, Port Glasgow, Lord Provost of Glasgow, died 26 jan 1842. He was Sheriff of Renfrewshire 20 jul 1816 - 1842. John Colin Dunlop, Advocate, was many years Sheriff of Renfrewshire, and was well known as the author of the "History of Fiction" and other works of merit. He died unmarried on 26th January 1842, an only child, and his father's direct line terminated with him (Old country houses of the old Glasgow gentry). Scottish archives have the inventory of John Colin Dunlop, advocate Sheriff depute of Renfrewshire, reg. 16mar1842 at Edinburgh. John Colin Dunlop (1785-1842), Scottish man of letters, was born on the 30th of December 1785. In 1816 he became sheriff of Renfrewshire, and retained this office until his death at Edinburgh, on the 26th of January (according to others, in February) 1842 (wikipedia). John Colin Dunlop (circa 1785 - 1842), historian, son of a Lord Provost of Glasgow, Scotland, where and at Edinburgh he was educated, was elected to the Faculty of Advocates in 1807, and became Sheriff of Renfrewshire. He wrote a History of Fiction (1814), a History of Roman Literature to the Augustan Age (1823-28), and Memoirs of Spain during the Reigns of Philip IV. and Charles II. (1834). He also made translations from the Latin Anthology.
