"John (Dumbleton), b. (Springfield) 2 Jan. 1650/1; killed by the Indians at Westfield, Mass., 27 Oct. 1675; … Lydia Dumbleton, relict of John Dumbleton of Springfield, dec'd, exhibited the inventory of his estate, 26 Sept. 1676, and administration was granted to her and to Anthony Dorchester 'her father' [not understood]. The relict of John Dumbleton, Jr., having made a motion 24 Sept. 1678 for settlement of the estate, the Court ordered, 20 Mar. 1678 [1678/9], 'considering she hath a young child, viz. a daughter of about 2 years,' that the movables be to the widow to educate the child, but that the land be secured for the child, who is to receive £40 when she comes of age."
