MILF: Y 1790 Orange County, St. Mary's district in land adjoining sonRobert. Served as Private in Revolutionary War 1776-1778. 1781 was promoted to Sgt in Battle of Gate's Defeat. His sonHardyman was in service with him. 1832 he was allowed pension for his service and was living inOrange County, NC 1763 - Mathew and Mary Edwards of Granville County, NC to JohnDuke of Granville County, 250 acres of land for 27 pounds and 10shillings. 1764 - McCullock sold to John Duke, 100 acres in Orange Countyfor 25 pounds. It was on both sides of the Flat River. Orange County formed from Granville, Johnson, and Bladencounties in 1751. 1765 - John Duke was deeded 100 acres in Orange County 1770 - John duke sold to John Hunter 100 acres in Orange County,for 35 pounds. 1779 - John Duke sold to Julius King land in Orange County, NCon waters of the Flatt River for 7 pounds and 10 shillings. 1790 - John Duke and sons, William, Hardyman and Taylor were notin Orange county, NC. They must have gone to GA where so manyDukes went. Land grants had been given to many Dukes for theirservice in the Revolution. |
