U.S. Army Ret. : Duke, John - entered service 1776 in Pennsylvania regiment; born 1/25/1755; granted Pension 1824 in Allegany County, Virginia when family with wife abt. age 57, son James abt. age 21, son Robert abt. age 18 & son Washington abt. age 16; resided 1832 in Marion County, Indiana, where he moved from Virginia to be near children; died 4/9/1841; married 2/12/1789 in Botetourt County, Virginia to Sally McNeal; widow granted Pension abt. age 74 in Morgan County, Indiana, 1844 when affidavit made there by Rosannah Duke that soldier's Pension certificate destroyed by one of her children.
