Estate Sale, June 15, 1829: p. 473-474 John Deboy Estate, Packet No 307, 1829-1833, Monroe County, West Virginia Notes Johannes “John” Deboy left a will dated 9 May 1825, which mentioned his wife Betsy and three of his children, daughters Uley Cox, Caty Inchminger, and Magdaline Cook, however, most of his property was to be divided among all of his children after Betsy’s death. The following is an abstract of the will:
Monroe County West Virginia, Will Book 2, p. 441, West Virginia State Library, History and Archives: John Deboy of Monroe Co. Virginia, will dated 9 May 1825, proved May 1829. Executors: Adam Thomas and Swift Perry. Wife Betsy to receive all bedding & 1 bureau, balance of personal prop. to be taken by exec and sold with 1/2 to wife. Wife to have use of all lands and dwelling house during her life. Dau. Uley Cox, wife of John Cox a piece of land, after her death to her children. Dau Caty Inchminger wife of Anthony Inchminger, 33a acres of land, after her death to her children. Dau Magdaline Cook widow of William, balance of lands less above, after her death to her children. 1/2 all personal property sale divided among all my children lands given to wife at her death to be sold and divided among all my children. Daughters Sarah Keller and Elizabeth Showan, and John’s sons, who were alive at the time of the will, weren’t mentioned in the will; however, they were listed as heirs in other documents in the estate. When read together, John Deboy's will, voucher statements, and 1837-1839 deeds indicate his heirs were as follows: Elizabeth Deboy, wife; Children: Magdline Mary “Polly” Cook, widow of William Cook, Conrad Deboy/Deboie, Elizabeth Showen/Showan, Uley/Julie and husband John Cox; Sarah Keller, Jacob Deboy, Abraham Deboy, Caty Catherine Inchminger/Ensminger, wife of Anthony.
