This may or may not be our John L. Doss.
John L. Doss married Margarett D. Summerfield on January 8th, January 26th or June 26th in either 1826 or 1827 according to online extracts of the original document(s?), the original of which I have not yet seen.
In the 1820 Census, a John Doss appears in Pittsylvania, Virginia. In his household are one male under the age of 10, one male over the age of 45, two females under the age of 10, one female between the ages of 10 & 16, one female over the age of 45 and one person engaged in Agriculture. This may or may not be this John Doss.
In the 1830 Census for Buckingham, Virginia, a John Doss appears. Living in this household is one man between the ages of 50 & 60. It is unknown if this is the correct John L. Doss.
There are two other Doss men living next to this John Doss in Buckingham, Virginia in 1830, Overstreet Doss and Jacob Doss.
There is a John Doss Sr. in another 1830 Census record for Pittsylvania, Virginia. Living in his household are one male between the ages of 10 and 15, one male between the ages of 80 & 90, one female between 20 & 30, one female between 30 & 40 and one female between the ages of 70 & 80.
On May 30th of 1834, John L. Doss and his wife, Margaret were issued a summons in a Botetourt County, Virginia Court Case. This case names the heirs of Richard Summerfield.
