Chautauqua County Directory (1873-4) By Hamilton ChildJ. W. Dawson lived in Ripley on road 19 (see our web site for this map). On the modern map it looks like it is between Route 5 & Route 20, closer to 20. He was a farmer with 108 acres.Isaac U. Dawson lived in Ripley too (post office was in Northville, Erie Co., PA). He lived on road 14 (down the road from J. W.). He too was a farmer with 59½ acres.

History of Chautauqua Co & Its People by Andrew Young (1875)Elihu Marvin removed to Ripley about 1810, having purchased a farm afterwards owned by Judge Selden Marvin, and now John Dawson, east of and near the East Ripley meetinghouse. He was a zealous friend of educational and religious institutions. About 1863, he removed to Erie, Pa., where hestill resides, at the advanced age of 84 years.Young goes on to say that John lives on the farm "now" (1875) & that he bought the farm from Selden Marvin who bought the farm from Elihu Marvin. This tells me J. W. was John as the location looks right.
